Plant-Based Diet Helps Acid Reflux
Looking for another reason to eat a plant-based diet? Here you go! It can help you manage acid reflux. Eating a mostly plant-based diet may reduce symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux, according to a study in JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery. The study included almost 200 patients diagnosed with reflux—a condition where stomach acid backs up into the throat and causes symptoms like hoarseness, sore throat, coughing, and throat clearing. In the study, 63% of patients on a plant-based diet had a significant improvement in symptoms, compared with 54% of patients on medical treatments for the condition. The patients lost weight, which could explain the benefits, but also they ate more healthful, anti-inflammatory foods.
