Coffee Drinkers May Live Longer

Sharon Palmer

As you know, I’m a huge fan of coffee as a plant-based beverage with benefits. And science just keeps supporting the health benefits of drinking this antioxidant-rich brew. A new study found that daily coffee drinkers may live longer and be 18 percent less likely to die over a 16-year period, compared to non-coffee drinkers. The study of 185,855 middle age and older Americans of multiple ethnicities from 1993 to 2012 assessed participants’ coffee intake using questionnaires. During the 16-year average follow-up about 58,000 died. Compared with drinking no coffee, those who drank one to three cups a day were 12-18 percent less likely to die. Results were similar for decaffeinated coffee drinkers. Remember, though—drink coffee without piles of sugar and cream for maximum benefits.
