Healthy Food Makes You Happier
When you eat well, I believe you not only feed your body, you feed your mind and soul. And more research is connecting mental health with nutrition. Making healthy food choices, such as eating vegetables and fruits, may have mental as well as physical benefits, research suggests. A study used smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment to provide real life, “in-the-moment” eating happiness of 1,044 eating episodes over eight days. Among 14 main food categories—including fruits, vegetables, dairy, and sweets—eating vegetables contributed most to eating happiness, consuming sweets provided a comparable happiness to healthy food choices, and eating dinner provided similar eating happiness to snacking.
