Plant Based Eating in Spain

Sharon Palmer RD

I spent an amazing week in Madrid, learning all about the local food culture in this fabulous country. So much amazing food is grown in this part of the world, such as a variety of vegetables, olives, almonds, and citrus. This is also home to amazing wines and a rich historical food tradition, that includes a liberal mix of ancient cultures leaving their mark, including the Romans, Greeks, Celts, and Moors. Not to mention the fine culinary skills of possibly the most famous chef in the world, Adria Ferran of elBuli fame.

Madrid is loaded with streets boasting views of beautiful buildings, statues, and fountains.

Pubs in Madrid

The Madrid streets are quite lively, filled with small taberna (pubs) and tapas spots.

Plaza del Sol, Madrid

I took a stroll to the Plaza del Sol, where an open square was flooded with people, and many shops sold local fare.

La Bola, Taberna

I enjoyed tapas at La Bola, a classic Madrid hotspot serving traditional fare since 1870!
