As a plant-based dietitian, I embrace living the plant-based lifestyle. My diet includes a variety of whole plant foods, such as pulses, whole grains, vegetables, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices. By eating this way, I can reduce my risk of chronic diseases, as well as my environmental footprint and the negative impact of animals in agriculture. I love living this way! I feel energetic, vibrant, and positive about my place on the planet. However, a plant-based existence is more than what I put on my plate—it’s about living la plant-powered vida from head to toe.

My plant-based lifestyle moves beyond what I eat to include other important aspects of my lifestyle, including the products I use to clean my house, the companies I support with my dollars, the clothes I wear, handbags I purchase, and the shoes I slip onto my feet every day. It is so exciting to see the innovation going on in the plant-based world to offer more sustainable, animal-friendly options for everything from cosmetics and shampoo to handbags, shoes, and even cars.

That’s why I’m so excited to share the news about Scoots Footwear, which is the world’s first plant-based footwear brand. Scoots is launching it’s crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter today, so hurry and check it out right now and support this brilliant cause. These plant-based Scoots shoes are not only cool and comfy, they are eco-friendly because they are made from 95% plant-based materials, such as pineapple leaves, corn, cork, and cotton. These natural materials mean that Scoots are breathable, form to your feet, and are super comfy. Plus, they come in four plant-friendly colors: chocolate, paprika, charcoal, and oatmeal.

According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, the average shoe takes 30-40 years to decompose in a landfill, but not so with Scoots. You can send back your shoes when you’re done wearing them, and they will compost 80% of the shoe, and responsibly dispose of the remaining 20%. Plus, Scoots is partnering with Forest Nation to plant a tree in Tanzania for every shoe sold to fight deforestation. It’s also important to consider the impact of leather production on animal welfare, as well as the planet—leather production relies upon factory farms and harmful chemicals. Every time you support sustainable, plant-based shoes, you make a difference.
