Plant-Based Eating in Bordeaux
I just came back from a trip to the Bordeaux region of France. I fell in love with this part of France, made famous for some of the best wines in the world. I enjoyed my fair share of that luscious wine, as well as the fresh, local foods. The homes are beautiful—fashioned of local creamy-colored limestone—the same stone found in the soil, which contributes to the quality of wines. The foods are all about local traditions and flavors.
After spending a day in the city of Bordeaux, I assembled this gorgeous collection of foods that I purchased: freshly baked bread, pasta, French radishes, fresh herbs, and eggplant. I stayed in a 300-year old limestone farmhouse during my stay, so I did a lot of cooking! Check out this amazing old pine kitchen table in the dining room—the backdrop of my food photo.
Bordeaux Farmers Market
There is a big farmers market that takes place each week in the city of Bordeaux—close to the train station. Here’s a glimpse of endive and peppers on display.

I bought two bunches of these candy-colored French radishes to add to salads during our stay. So pretty!
Boulangerie, Bordeaux
We spent one day walking around the city of Bordeaux and I stumbled upon a very old bakery, which still uses it’s ancient wood-burning oven, which you can see in the back of this shot. The rough, whole grain bread we bought there was my favorite!
Bar Façade, Bordeaux
While wondering around Bordeaux, I ran across many shops and cafes with fantastical storefronts. Elaborate decorations were heaped upon the first levels, which were in plain view of passersby. This charming collection of faux sheep and chickens at this bar was my favorite.
Fleur de Sauvignon
I bought a bottle of this beautiful salt, which has Cabernet Sauvignon grape extract from the region added in order to create this lovely burgundy shade.
Barrel Tasting, St. Emillion
Our farmhouse lodging was in the St. Emillion area. We enjoyed an incredible experience learning all about the wines in this region while sampling wine straight from the barrel.

Wine from Bordeaux
We enjoyed regional wines every night during our stay. Check out that deep, limestone ledge in the country kitchen, with views of the forest.
